Education on Parenteral Pharmaceutical Processes

Education on Pharm. Processes

Who we are

The IPPD - Institute for Pharmaceutical Process Development was founded 2024 by Dr. Martin Bultmann; at that time as non for profit only. In September 2026 IPPD will incorporate as business and offer all of its services to businesses large and small.

Well educated scientists are paramount for our future progress; not just in academic science, but also in industry. Therefore, we are devoted to education.
Our main purpose is to educate in and around the field of Pharmaceutical Process Development. Starting with Terminology, over the basics of dosage form preparation and development via Maths and Statistics, QbD (Quality by Design), DoE (Design of Experiments), LSS (Lean Six Sigma), GMP basics, solid and liquid process development up to cleaning validation and plant design. Target audience are students and employees of startups and/or big pharma, that want to learn about these topics; from first insights to the very details. But wait: we also have courses for upper management; especially around LSS

One special focus is on the development and training of the parenteral fill finish processing steps.
This comprises selection of the best filling needle and pump tube diameters, the pump settings like speed, acceleration, deceleration and back suction, the filling curve, but also filter selection criteria (e.g. Vmax, filter size, throughput and pressure), as well as mixing regimen. For syringes and cartridges, also the bubble size is important to avoid issues during cold storage and/or air shipment.

We also offer troubleshooting service.
Should you encounter any issues throughout the fill-finish process from thawing via compounding/mixing, bulk feed, filling up to stoppering, feel free to contact us. We're here to help you and have a success record of finding the root cause and provide mitigation options.

The IPPD also covers soft skill training, coaching and mentoring.
Not only scientific knowledge and excellent research make up good scientists, but it is also neccesary that they can communicate the outcome of their excellent research equally to peers, laymen and young scientists, motivate and inspire them. Therfore, the IPPD sees itself as an institution, which provides continuous learning and specialized training for graduate students and post graduates.

Training, Mentoring, Coaching

We offer hard and soft skill training sessions for selected students, at workshops e.g. by Galenus Foundation or conferences like DPhG Jahrestagung, CRS German chapter meeting etc. on special request. No matter whether you prefer individual training or classroom training, remote or live, at your site, off site or anywhere else - all options are available. Get in contact with us and we can tailor training to your specific needs.

Scientific training

Our scientific program comprises LSS: Lean principles, Quality by Design (QbD), Design of Experiments (DOE), Minitab training, basic and advanced statistics, Learning how to troubleshoot, and OpenScad training for beginners and advaced users.

Soft Skills

For soft skill training there are a number of courses like Working in international teams / intercultural training, Successful Teamwork, Communication, and Management focused Presenting.

Mentoring

At times the IPPD offers Mentoring sessions (approx. six session of 1h each) for the Poster or Presentation Award Winners of the above mentioned venues. Such mentoring is intended for PhD students close to the end of their thesis, who are anticipating a career in pharmaceutical industry.

Future expansion

Currently we only work on a non for profit basis with institutions, foundations or pharmaceutical societies. In the future (from September 2026 on) we will add professional commercial services for other companies form small Biopharma-Startups to Big-Pharma. Please be patient and excited as we are about the services to come.

If you are already interested in our future services, please feel free to browse the menu, learn more and already get in contact with us. We're happy to hear from you already and will let you know as soon as our commercial business goes live.

Consulting services for the Pharmaceutical Industry

From September 2026 on, we will open our "for profit" extension of the IPPD. It will include a variety of services like:

Process Development with special focus on Parenteral Fill-Finish Processes

You are unsure about filtration parameters, machine throughput, the selection of tubes and needles, filling curve, stopper positions or vacuum settings? We can provide both: the right parameters and the knowledge so that you really "own" the process and don't have to rely on others!

Teaching Fill Finish Processes

By our signature Fergera Helmsman training scheme we will efficiently provide in depth training in the important aspects of all unit operations like thawing, mixing, filtration, filling, stoppering etc.

Troubleshoting

Are you experiencing issues with the processing of new projects, transfer from one machine to another, during scale-up or when doing slight changes? Don't worry; contact us instead! We have a decades long success story in troubleshooting of Pharmaceutical Processes, both on the solid dosage form side as well as on the parenteral side.

Our partners

We partner on a non for profit basis with the following companies and/or institutions

DGzRS

We are also proud sponsor of the DGzRS (Deutsche Gesellschaft zur Rettung Schiffbrüchiger, German Maritime Search and Rescue Service)
